ClimeCraft: The UCCRN Game Board

On September 26, 2025, during the European Researchers’ Night in Naples, the innovative board and card game ClimeCraft was presented as an engaging tool to connect research, education, and climate action. Developed within the Erasmus+ UCCRN_edu project, the game uses gamification to promote collaborative learning about climate-resilient urban design and governance. The event, enthusiastically embraced by young participants, highlighted how playful, research-based approaches can foster awareness and inspire future generations to take part in the ecological transition.

Developed within the framework of the European Erasmus+ UCCRN_edu project, ClimeCraft aims to foster multidisciplinary training and international cooperation on climate-resilient urban design, planning, and governance. Through gamification mechanisms, the game encourages collaborative learning and reflection, helping participants identify urban priorities and integrate adaptation and mitigation objectives into decision-making processes.

One of ClimeCraft’s key strengths lies in its ability to highlight the interconnections between climate action and its social, economic, and environmental co-benefits, promoting a systemic vision of the ecological transition in urban contexts. In this sense, the game serves not only as an educational tool but also as a strategic instrument to facilitate dialogue and cooperation among diverse urban actors.

The presentation in Naples was warmly received, especially among younger participants, who took part with enthusiasm and curiosity. Their active engagement demonstrated how, when properly involved, even the youngest audiences are capable of understanding the complexity of climate challenges and envisioning possible solutions. This reinforces the importance of scientific and environmental education as a fundamental driver for building a more sustainable future.
